an organized mess

Sometimes, I mess up orders.

As the cashier, I forget to see if their card payment goes through.

Often I can’t hear the person on line, which is the position that serves the food, announce the customer’s order, so that I can ring it up promptly and correctly.

Sometimes, I blank out.

I don’t know what to say.

When that happens, I go back to the basics.

“Hi, so you are getting this and this. Would you also like chips or drink or anything else?”

As easy as it may sound, at times I struggle to get the words out.

Sometimes I get customers with strange requests, which is fine, but it just shakes things up.

Sometimes the customer is in a weird mood, not a bad one per se, but just one that shakes me up.

Sometimes the customer is in a bad mood and treats me like I’m their !@#$

Not fun.

Sometimes, it isn’t the customer giving me some weird, I wouldn’t say shit, but there’s some strange energy, requests, or sometimes with work in general that just shakes up my day.

Today I even had a customer who who wasn’t even a customer because she wasn’t buying anything, just hanging out…
