down the street sits a family owned apothecary
close to looking like a well-stocked office
an oasis in the middle of tough times
participating systemically in the collective treatment of many
a place where people don’t ask how’s your day
because the honest answer always is that i could do better
that’s why i’m there to pick up
no one notices my dosages are getting higher and higher
except the pharmacist and the psychiatrist
it’s painful having been taking it for years
i know the in’s and out’s of my pills better than most people
pharmaceutical meds are a different ball game
the family that owns that pharmacy probably know that
their goal is to give people their meds
and make that experience as fluid as can be
with smiles and laughter, cordial greetings
at least that’s the goal or maybe fantasy
oh and the money is good i bet
thank god for insurance
but no one knows how much of a difference
